Summary of Activities

A: Pilgrims Who Intend Ifrad or Qiran:

  1. Put on Ihram at the Miqat
  2. Make Talbiyyah until they reach Al-Hajr Al-Aswad [The Black Stone] at the Ka’abah
  3. Make Tawaf Qudum. Men expose their right shoulders [Idtiba’] during this Tawaf only [i.e. not before or after it]; and they jog [i.e. move in short, quick steps] in the first 3 rounds. Women walk normally.
  4. May do Sa’ay now or delay it until 10th Dhul Hijjah when they have returned from ‘Arafah, thrown at Jamrah AlAqabah at Mina, and performed Tawaf Al-Ifādah.
  5. On 8th Dhul Hijjah, they leave for Mina reciting Talbiyyah for the rest of the Hajj activities.

NOTE: For the pilgrims offering Ifrad or Qiran, who have not come along with Hadya from Al-Hillu [i,e from outside Al-Haram], they should convert their Ihram into Tamattu’. Therefore, they would make Tawaf, Sa’ay, and shave or cut their hair short, thus freeing themselves from the restrictions of Ihram. This was what the Sahabah [R. A.] did uon the instructions of the Prophet [s.a.w.s]

B: Pilgrims Who Intend Tamattu':

  1. Put on Ihram at the Miqat
  2. Make Talbiyyah until they reach Al-Hajr Al-Aswad [The Black Stone] at the Ka’abah
  3. Perform ‘Umrah, i.e Do Tawaf ‘Umrah, Sa’ay, and [starting from their right side] shave or cut their hair short
  4. Remove their Ihram dresses until on 8th Dhul Hijjah when they take bath, put them on again, pray, make intention for Hajj, and resume Talbiyyah as they proceed to Mina.
