Laying a condition in Ihram

If a person entertains the fear that he might be unable to complete his Hajj because of ill-health, for example, he could lay a condition in his Ihram by saying/adding this clause:

          « اللَّهُمَّ مِحِلىِّ حَيْثُ حَبَسْتَنِى «.

“The place of my release from Ihram shall be at the place from where I no longer could continue with the Hajj.” [Muslim]

The benefit of this condition is that if a person fails to complete the Hajj he is exempted from making Hadya [animal sacrifice] and from the obligation to repay the Hajj in the following year, if this happens in a non-obligatory Hajj.
